I created this team as a means to raise money for charity at the Copa Cabana tournament in Nottingham, 2010. Players would pay to be part of the team for the weekend, or on a pay-per-play basis, and a record-attempt game took place with over 70 players representing the team.
All proceeds went to East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices, a very worthy cause that has provided great help to my family in the past. Over the course of the three-day tournament, we managed to raise over £2,500 through the generosity of the players, and the tournament organisers from Lookfly.
The simple screen-printed design was based on the iconic image of American soldiers planting a flag during the battle of Iwo Jima. All the players that represented the team became the “army”, and I felt that this image (and the numbering) evoked the “army” feel that I wanted for the team, with us all banding together to achieve something significant.
